Hello, GBBA Members,

The GBBA has been busy! A big thank you goes out to all of our committee chairs for the quality and variety of the programs they have brought to us these last two months. Among the highlights were the Family Law Practice Updates Seminar on September 27th, the judges reception generously sponsored by Cohen and Wolf, P.C. that same evening, and the October 13th judges’ luncheon hosted by the Young Lawyers Committee where distinguished Judges Doyle, Pavia, and Rodriguez graciously shared their words of wisdom. On October 12th, GBBA members volunteered their time at the Hallen School’s annual Read Aloud Day in conjunction with the Community Outreach Committee.  A hearty group of GBBA hikers and their families met at Sleeping Giant State Park on October 21st where they experienced fall foliage at its best and an impromptu lunch at the top of the mountain at the castle.  A special thanks to YLC Co-Chairs Attorneys Venoal M. Fountain, Jr. and Carolyn A. Trotta who organized the event and led the charge in a successful treasure hunt.  On November 8th, Real Property Committee Co-Chairs Attorneys Matthew C. Reale and Lucas Hernandez, in conjunction with CATIC, held a seminar on recent developments in Connecticut real estate law.  Rounding out the slate of events was our autumn social at Trattoria ‘Avucchella at the Bijou Square.  On a somber note, the annual Service of Remembrance was held on September 29th.

I am happy to report that 171 new Connecticut attorneys were sworn in to the Connecticut Bar at the Connecticut Supreme Court on November 3rd, and GBBA Executive Director Antoinette Manganello and I were privileged to attend the ceremony.  We are excited that a number of the new admittees joined the GBBA during the reception, and we hope they will become active members of our organization.

The GBBA still has a number of exciting opportunities coming up before the end of the year, both educational and social, and we encourage you to peruse the GBBA’s website to see what’s ahead. On November 17th, the Workers’ Compensation Committee will be presenting an informative seminar. Join us again on November 30th for the Litigation Committee’s Brewery Tour and Tasting at the Veracious Brewing Company. In case you missed the September 26th Ahead of the Curve Ethics in Practice Seminar, due to popular demand, the seminar will be held again on December 6th at the GBBA offices.  On another note, as you may have seen, the GBBA is collecting donations for the annual Horn of Plenty Food Drive for distribution to local community partners, Operation Hope and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. Please contact the GBBA for information and/or to schedule a pick up.

The GBBA works hard to keep you updated on any procedural changes that may be happening at the start of the new year. As you may have heard, the Rules of Appellate Procedure have been amended and will go into effect on January 1, 2018.  The amendments are available on the homepage of the judicial branch’s website. Also, remember, if you have a special topic for a continuing legal education credit seminar, please feel free to contact the GBBA.  Suggestions are always welcome.

Although it seems impossible to believe, the holidays are around the corner. We hope that you were able to join us for the GBBA’s annual Holiday Party. Once again, we celebrated together at the beautiful Black Rock Yacht Club on December 5th. As always, the GBBA sends its wishes for a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year to all of you.
