President’s Message July/August 2010

Posted on June 30, 2010

In case many of you don’t know it, there is a lot going on at the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association.  At our annual dinner in May we recognized two great lawyers who have contributed so much to our profession.  Jack Zeldes (Career Service Award) and Steve Donahue (Distinguished Service Award). Our congratulations to both.

The Family Law committee held a well attended seminar on bankruptcy issues and short sales in the domestic relations arena.

The Community Outreach Committee provided and served lunch at the Merton House on June 22.  Thanks to all who lent their support in both time and finances.  Special thanks to Koskoff, Koskoff, & Bieder for their generous support of this event.

GBBA hosted a summer social at the Black Rock Yacht Club on June 28 sponsored by Fairfield County Bank.  This annual event gave us an opportunity to sit back and relax among good friends and beautiful scenery.  Even though it rained just before the event, it didn’t prevent members and friends from enjoying themselves.  I have been informed by our Special Events Committee that our Holiday Party will be held at the Yacht Club on December 9th so mark your calendars.

The Criminal Law Committee is hosting a lunch to honor the Honorable Frank A. Iannotti who was chosen as Judge of the Year.   The luncheon will be held on July 15, 2010 at the Holiday Inn.   The Greater Bridgeport Bar Association extends its congratulations to Judge Iannotti.

Our annual Sports Outing is planned for August 30th.  Golf this year will be at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Bridgeport and tennis will be at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield.  We hope to get a large turn out this year.  Come and bring your friends, it’s a wonderful golf course.

On September 14, 2010 the annual “Judges Reception”  will be hosted by Pullman and Comley.  This gives everyone an opportunity to meet our State and Federal Judges.

I guess that you can tell that your Bar Association and its committees are extremely active and busy.  I urge everyone to join a committee or committees of their interest and become active participants in your Bar Association.

Finally, as you all know, the Bridgeport Law Library was scheduled to close on July 1, 2010.  Thanks to the efforts of many, including our area legislators, and the many Association members who wrote letters to Hartford, the law library will remain open.

Have a wonderful and safe summer.
