Fall is in the air and the beaches are closed. We can now settle into cool weather and year end thoughts. In 2017, all practicing attorneys in Connecticut will be required to complete twelve (12) hours of continuing legal education requirements (CLE). Local bars were not in favor of this mandatory requirement, but the good news is lawyers can attain up to two (2) credits toward the twelve (12) hours requirement in the calendar year 2016!
The Greater Bridgeport Bar Association, Inc. (GBBA) was established in 1880, one of the oldest, continuously active bar associations in the United States. Throughout its history, the GBBA has promoted excellence in the legal profession, defended the interests of its members, and has sought to advance the cause of a society ruled by law.
Although its size has grown over the years, the nature of the organization remains essentially the same—it is an organization that provides its members with the opportunity to learn and grow in a congenial and friendly atmosphere.
The Greater Bridgeport Bar Association Scholarship Fund was established in 1995, and consists of contributions made by our members and the earnings thereon. Yearly, a scholarship is awarded that consists of a portion of the principal’s earnings. Students eligible for the scholarship must reside in the greater Bridgeport area, have graduated from a college or university, and are entering the first year of an accredited law school program. The scholarship application may be accessed by calling the Foundation at (203) 750-3200 or visiting their website at www.fccfoundation.org.
